Since it's been warming up the bike has been back out and Zoe has been trying to ride as often as possible. That's not always too easy with Ana around. So, we've been trying to get the bike out during Ana's snooze. Zoe believes that she is big enough to ride around the block on her own. I, on the other hand, think she is crazy for even thinking she could possibly be that independent already. (When do you let them ride the bike around the block alone anyway???) Our compromise is that Zoe can ride back and forth in front of our house... about 4 houses to the left and 4 houses to the right. Usually there are actually cars blocking those driveways so Zoe knows right where to stop. Then I can sit on our front step with the baby monitor (and an iced coffee and my iPhone) while Ana naps. Happy campers all around.
The bike riding has become an almost daily event so she's getting pretty good. She has really started flying... and you can sometimes hear a "WWWEEEEEEE" as she comes all the way down the slight hill. She's getting much more comfortable... and a little tiny bit less quick with the brakes. We may have a pretty speedy bike rider by the end of the summer.
I took this teeny tiny video with my iPhone. Next time I'll have to try turning the phone sideways. I'm finding more reasons to love the iPhone every day. It's sad how few people actually call me though. My phone is barely used as a phone!!! But... it's great for spur of the moment photos and videos. (And... I'm slightly addicted to Words with Friends. Does anyone else play?)

I'd call that super speedy! Way to go, Zoe!!! I don't know how big your block is...but I'm with you! I think Shannon was like 10 before I let her ride out of my sight...and even then, I was a wreck.
And actually, now that I think about it...we were at the park once, on the paved trail. Patrick and I were walking, and Shannon was riding her bike. The trail is a loop, so from time to time she'd pass us, etc. We all had cell phones. We had noticed it'd been longer than usual since she'd gone by...so we speeded up. Just as we came out of a clearing, there was a man there waiting for us. He asked if our daughter was on a bike, and we said "Yes!" Turns out, she'd fallen...and was hurt. He was nice enough to come find us, and take us to where she was. As it happens, she had broken her arm! Made me feel like an awful mom. Here we were trying to let her have a *little* freedom, and she ended up getting hurt.
Anyway...this is a novel, but it's not necessarily only stranger-danger you need to look out for.
So fun!
And tell me about this words with friends...it sounds like something I want to know more about for sure!
Oh! Words with Friends is an app on iPhone. As far as I'm concerned it's a version of scrabble. Once you register you can share your id name with people so you can play people you know. I don't know too many people playing... so I just start random games with strangers. There is a chat feature attached to each game too.... so while playing you can chat with the people you're playing with. I have about 10 games going now.... because you can play your word and then you have to wait however long until your opponent plays. If they're on while you're on the game can go quick... but sometimes I'll play a word and then it might be the next day before the phone beeps to tell me it's my turn.
See!?! That is exactly what I'm afraid of. The minute I can't see her she'll fall off the bike and break something. Thankfully, right now she can' quite make it up the small inclines. Whenever she stops she can't always get the pedals going again... so she turns around. I'm sure the day I let her do it alone I'll be standing at the end of the driveway with my heart in my throat just dying while I wait for her to come back around the corner.
So fun!
